Cold sore or hive?
05/08/12 at 15:22:38

Here's a stumper;
During my recent rash of hives, I had some on my lips too.
Then... I got what felt like a cold sore on each end of my upper lip, so I put some prescription cream on the "spots". I am not sure if they were still hives??? Anyone have this problem- yet ?
How can one tell ?

i notice I often get cold sores when flaring

I wonder if the breakdown in the skin at the vermilion border from the inflammation allows the herpes virus to infect it as it usually preys on cracks etc

Oh my;
It's so hard to remember not to kiss anyone when this happens.
It's almost a reflex to want to kiss my grandson all the time.
My husband- I remember to be careful with...Hmmmm- that's interesting Cheesy I guess we should treat any "hives" on our mouths as Suspect. My sister gave me a kiss on the lips one Christmas years ago, & she had a cold sore. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

Don't know if this applies to you, but folic acid deficiency (folate) can cause sores (fissures) and irritation at the corners of the mouth.

Hives are temporary, cold sores take a week or so to heal.

Remember, cold sores are a virus, hives are not.  Be considerate so as not to spread the virus! Smiley
