RIT Dye contains Azo dyes
04/19/12 at 23:51:12

Hello,
Wanted to post that I reacted violently/anaphylaxis after moving clothes from the washing machine to the dryer with clothes that were dyed with RIT dye in the washing machine, then rinsed twice and washed with detergent.

I called the RIT company, and they wouldn't share with me any of the ingrendients, but they would confirm or deny my guesses.  On my second call, they confirmed that RIT dyes contain azo dyes, which are listed on the TMS site as a mast cell degranulator.  These dyes are not the FD&C dyes used to color medications or foods, but are azo dyes used to color clothing, textiles and paint.  BTW, there are thousands of such azo dyes used in the US.

If only I had worn gloves while moving the clothes to the dryer.......
