My appt is later this afternoon. I'll let you know how it goes. My swelling has gone WAY down and the eye ball itself is now only pink. I'm still keeping this appt.

Grrr hoping you got that cromolyn eye drops along with eye steroids. Watch for preservatives in anything eye and that pataday over the counter Ramona and Mike V talk about is Ketotofen and if you tolerate will work wonderfully. Have you possibly started a new line of makeup, or hair goo? I'm horribly allergic to quite a lot of junk, it came on suddenly and I had continuous eye problems. Only thing that cleared it was cromolyn eye drops and the steroid eye drops, it was severe and continuous. Till I figured out the offenders. Hoping as you think yours isn't mast cell related! however your reaction to the drops was! Exciting Ramona your doc could see mast cells, I can't wait to ask mine when I see him! I know my eyes will be a mega + for masties. Anyway, mica triggers my eyes and is in everything now including mascara, and some lovely long sounding chemical names. Especially the "natural mineral" cosmetics, my eyes look Like Rocky Balboa after the final round! I hope this episode is over for you now, whatever works, keep some extra on hand in case you get a recurrence

Thanks Sandi. Unfortunately doc said I had plugged oil glands more then likely from the massive doses of antihistamines. I did ask if he had a machine he could see mast cells in my eyes with. He said those are usually only found at the big universities. My eye is better now. Thanks again!

Yes the article about GI mobility is really good and kind of lays out this disease...a good read for some of my family members that still don't quite understand what is going on with my husband. I'd love to print it but it's got a black background, maybe if I copy and paste.

My husband had a stye in his eye this winter that lasted 2 months, of course it was inflammation  in his lashes and we had to use an antibiotic ointment and padatay (sp) eye drops...it finally went away but it caused his eye lash to grow in reverse and now it grows into his eye ball so we have to go back every 2-3 months to get it pulled out...it's gross and like we need another doctor to go see. Also when he gets tired n starts to yaun his eyes water so much that it looks like he's crying...his eyes water a lot...I told him it's better than dry eye...but another strange masto symptom.

Patricia,

If he has inflammation in his eyelids, it could cause the ducts not to drain very well.  This could cause the tears to run over instead of going through the ducts as they should.  Does he use ketotifen eyedrops?

Huh never thought of that but makes sense...his eyes can water with tears streaming down his face..we use the ketotifen eye drops only when they itch but maybe well start doing it regularly and see if that helps.
Thank you!!!

I'm sorry I didn't give more detail. I don't always think things through very well or simply just have glitches when I do think. However, the eye specialist did say that often with inflammation the ducts (whether tear ducts or oil glands) often get blocked or simple don't work as well. He felt that the antihistamines adds to the eye issues especially in such high doses. I normally suffer with extreme dry eye. All part of the inflammation issue. So he gave me Systane Balance eye drops (can be found over the counter but slightly expensive). I have used the Systane Ultra before but didnt get much relief so I stopped. The Balance is new and has an added ingredient to help maintain the natural tears. Unfortunately these new drops gave me a terrible sore throat so I stopped using them too.
I really should start a list of suggested medications for the array of multiple symptoms I find on here so I can bring it to Dr Afrin when I see him in Oct.
Hope hubby finds something to helP Patricia!

He used Tobradex eye drops drops that are a steroid and antibiotic that really helped reduce the inflammation and got rid of the stye. Except they are so expensive $150 for a tiny bottle...that Im waiting to go back to the eye doctor to get some free samples!

Also using those occu wipe sterile eye lid cleaner wipes really helped to keep the ducts clean so theres less of a chance that they'll clog up.
