Zantac/Ranitidine

Well I'm tolerating a brand pretty well! Finally a H2 blocker that I can take! Very excited about that! Ironically it seems to be giving me a bit more diarrhea, but I already have that pretty ridiculous anyway.  I started the stomach pain reaction to dryer vents  while watering again, and added an extra one of those along with allergra and it helped so I did not have to add benadryl! I can't stay in the situation but it did not get worse so I am  Cheesy  So my question is, I've seen a lot of you are able to go from 300 mg 2 x a day for awhile through a bad season (warm season or cold or whatever) and then go back down to  150mg 2 x a day. When you go back down in mg do you end up with severe heartburn like when weaning off of prilosec and other acid reducers/?   The one side effect I do not like at all is the sore tongue is back, had that while taking prilosec found out it did not block h2 so quit, sublingual b's help but that is a bummer. However so far It's helping the daily overtriggering so I am  Roll Eyes Cheesy

I am curious about this as well! I take 300 mg zantac twice/day and whenever I forget to take it on time, I feel as if I have heartburn -- even when I have notg eaten anything! I never had heartburn before starting zantac, so I have often wondered if we get kind of dependent upon it and feel the heartburn symptom if we have not taken it. What do you think?

We've just got to deal with the addiction to acid reducers, because we need the histamine blocker! I'm still having success, and really excited, I've gotten myself out of two could have been really no good situations/days of reacting. I'm so hoping my body will stabilize with this added. I'm thinking of 300 mg 2x a day too Deb. I've started with 150 twice a day, a couple nights ago my stomach pain started due to a neighbor popping in my doorway wearing perfume, I quickly downed an extra allegra, about 20 min later still getting worse popped an additional zantac and I survived. I didn't have to do the I'm totally crashing 2 benadryl!!! Woke up early am 4:30 am with nausea and stomach pain ( monthly female blessing) I'm usually pretty unstable the week of. Popped another of both and woke up no nausea and stomach pain..... I was not the terminator today but I got a lot more done than how I'd normally feel on just allegra and benadryl.  Now I'm hoping my body will become zeneriffic and not adjust quickly and then be right back to misbehavin! I'm feeling like I may finally get a hold on continuously triggering. Histamine take that would you!! Smiley
Or should I say Masties take that!

I typically take an extra allegra or Zyrtec when triggering. Have you ever tried Zyrtec? I always take 300 mg Zantac in the morning and 300 mg zantac in the evening. If you take the Zantac at this higher dose as preventative, you may eliminate most of your GI issues.

Sandi, I have a lot of GI issues from chemical exposures, too. I have been amazed at what the Zantac is helping with. I started only taking 150 mg twice a day, but kept needing to take extra every day. So I started taking 300 mg twice a day, and am feeling really good! It seems to build up, so that the longer I take these doses, the better I am doing. I also seem to be feeling better from taking meds ahead of time, rather than having the reaction, then trying to chase it with extra medications.

I still need to take extras sometimes. I usually get bad reactions when I am physically active, so yesterday I did an experiment. I went out for a brief walk, that would usually cause later reactions of shortness of breath and tachycardia. This time I took an extra Zyrtec as Deborah has encouraged me to try, and no reaction! I am still sore the next day, as I usually am, but that may just be due to how de-conditioned I am from avoiding any activity for so long.

I hope you find this really protects you from perfumes and such. It is so limiting when you react to all the ordinary things people use every day. If you can manage that, life would be a lot more pleasant. Plus, I am watching to see how you do, as we have so many similar issues. This whole area is something I had given up having any help with, as no one seemed to have any effective treatments. As you know, many doctors even think it is a psychological problem.

Sandi, when you get that sore tongue, just delete one sedating antihistamine at night, bed-time. And that Vit B?? We arent supposed to take them, look on the REMA list and Dr Castells protocal. That may be part of your problem, It reacts with us. Hope you feel better soon!!

Hey Ramona,

Can you tell me specifically where to find the info on not taking B vitamins?  I couldn't find anything about it.  I take one that has several B's in it, and I've only noticed good effects from it.  But, of course, my body is strange in what it does and doesn't tolerate.  I think I've had problems with both niacin and niacinamide, but not the others.

Thanks,

Joan

We aren't supposed to take vitamin B? Uh-Oh....  I give myself a 1000 mcg sub q  injection every month.  I have read exhaustive medical texts (ok, I'm a nerd and work at a med school) that trace malabsorbtion to systemic mastocytosis.  Also, omeprazole, prevacid, pepsid, tagamet...etc.  all interfere with B-12 absorption, digestion or metabolism. I didn't see it on the REMA protocol, but I admit I haven't really looked at it in a while.

At any rate, it sure makes ME feel better...

BTW.... ya know what scares me the most about masto?  How it effects everyone so darn differently..... Sad

Mike, I give myself 1000 mcg IM injections every other day of B12. I have a genetic issue that not only doesn't have me make enough, but also I need more than most people. As far as I can tell, I feel much better when I use the injections than when I don't.

I have it handwritten in, in my masto notebook--but I dont remember where I got it from and why. So I back off from that statement and ask anyone who will see a masto specialist soon to ask about vitamin B. Sorry for the confusion, blame my brain fog lol.
Hugs

Please do! I don't do well with all B vitamins, so am careful to not overdo unless it is one I know I tolerate, and that helps me. The only B I take in high doses is hydroxycobalamine, which is a form of B12 that helps with neurological issues.
