Antihistamines and Drug Tests
01/23/13 at 12:21:15

Hello,

Does anyone know if either Benedryl or Loratidine will interfere with a drug screening test?  I just got a new job and have to have drug testing for it.

Thanks much!

Perhaps you could ask your local pharmacist. That is what I would do.

Google is your friend  Smiley http://www.askdocweb.com/falsepositives.html

Both Loratadine and Benadryl can give a false positive.

Benadryl's active ingredient is Diphenhydramine which are often misused for recreational purposes and it may also have long term negative effect: Antihistamines are generally not addictive. However, because of its strong anticholinergic and sedative effect, diphenhydramine can cause psychological and physical dependence in patients undergoing long-term therapy with the drug.

If possible use something else than Benadryl.
