Effects of probiotics

This is one of a number of articles by researchers who are finding that various strains of probiotic bacteria have beneficial effects, including stabilizing mast cells.

There was a discussion on NPR the other day about certain strains reducing stress hormones in rats, another potentially beneficial outcome for humans with MC disease since stress seems to be such a big trigger.

Both of these were rat studies, but it's looking like probiotics will eventually be proven to be helpful in lowering levels of mediators on humans.  If you Google 'probiotics and mast cells,' there are a number of interesting research articles.  Some even suggest that different strains reduce or increase certain mediators.

If you want to try probiotics, do run it by your doctor, especially if you have any reduced immunity.
