***CAUTION...this contains adult themes***
10/10/12 at 10:43:09

I questioned if I should share this, but if I could help someone else, I should get over it!
I am highly allergic/reactive to my husbands semen.
I suspected this last year and told the doc. he recommended using condoms, we did for awhile and just kind of stopped.  My husband had a vasectomy 18 years ago.  So condoms are not necessary or appreciated!!
I have altered my diet, my environment, my personal products and totally overlooked the one thing that hasn't changed that needed to change.
After seeing a pattern, I finally figured it out DAH!!  I can believe how stupid I have been.
We did our own scientific study-we used condoms for a week.  Then one day did not.  Itchy feet, swollen eyes and really, really triggering for 3 days.  It is no wonder I have felt so bad over the last year.  I am actually afraid to try it again without the condom because of the reaction!
On the up side, I have been more stable in the past 5 days than I have since this whole thing started. I also don't plan on having any more children!
I thought last week it was the fall weather making me so sick...while it may have played a role in my triggering, I think the majority of it was from my scientific study.
Glad to figure this out, I'm happy and disappointed at the same time,
because I am mourning once again the loss of something else this stupid disease has taken from me.
Sorry, if I grossed anyone out, just wanted to share, just in case someone else has the same issue without realizing it.  Gives everyone something to think about.

I love the *caution*!!!!! Lol. They say truth is always stranger than fiction!!!!! So glad you have figured this out Pam! I know you had mentioned the crying spells you would have after having sex! When you think about it, it makes sense. It is an "invader" after all!  I'm going to have to start paying more attention. I know I have always felt nauseous after sex. Hmmmmm........ Cheesy

I have heard of this before from my former allergist.  It can cause fertility problems for some people and make getting pregnant difficult.

Wondering if pre-medicating with extra antihistamines would help.

Joan,
I always do premedicate with an H2!   Smiley  So I know that has to be helping some! At this point it may not hurt to throw in an H1 as well!
My allergist mentioned a doctor in Ohio that works on desensitizing this kind of allergen, but we are not wanting to go through all that.  It would be different if we wanted to have children but our youngest is 18,-so that is not an issue.  I imagine it is very expensive because it has to be done at a hospital.
Brigitte,
I wanted to give everyone fair warning!  LOL- I know not everyone wants to know all of the little details of my life! Grin
I really think the crying is caused by the release of mast cells, if I am completely stable and always premedicate, I don't have any problems.  But if I have had a rough day of triggering, then afterwards I'm crying and nauseous.
I have a tendancy to cry the day after any kind of big trigger too.  But I have realized the pattern so it is easier to deal with, because I know why it is happening and I know it will get better!
Good talk girls!

Ladies
Oh poor us !!! (that includes our spouses too) Cry I wonder if any men have reactions to us ??? Huh
I couldn't help but laugh at some of the comments Grin. I was so embarassed when I first brought it up on here. I discussed it with Lisa; and our "viagra" is an extra H1 about half an hour before. I thought I was going to have a stroke/aneurysm at one crucial moment. NOT sexy!  Embarrassed
So here's my question; is it a different trigger in certain cases ? IE: my husband's semen, OR the act itself ? I think I'm going to  buy some condoms & experiment a bit. OMG- can you imagine what the cashier gonna think of a 50 year old woman buying condoms ??? Cheesy Grin Cheesy Grin I could let Hubby get em- they might thing he's got a young chick on the side ... Grin Grin Grin
Seriously, this felt good to share Pam- cuz it is a sensitive subject & such an important aspect in a relationship. Wink

Lori,
Grin
Apparently for me I have a reaction to both the act and his "stuff"!
I always premedicate with an H2.  I can sometimes time it to throw in my H1 as well.  I usually get hives, some times nausia IF I am unstable or have had a reactive day. I will become emotional right after my grand "finale", which I'm sure takes away from my husband's "finale"!  I try to hold it together, but can't stop the crying.  I think a lot of mast cells live in my brain and control my emotions Cheesy  I have read so much about it that I shouldn't be suprised, but it is always a suprise to be having a great time one minute and uncontrollable crying the next...Sybil comes to mind. Grin  Also, telling him, no, no your great but I have to go cry and throw up, kind of puts a damper on things!  Wink
I told him I would make a good study subject because of how this affects me.  It can be like clockwork.
Thankfully this is happening less and less!!! Smiley Smiley Smiley
Since we started using condoms 100% of the time this has not happened at all.  Because I am more stable! Overall I am feeling much better!
I think it was a big trigger and I just couldn't put my finger on it.   Grin(that sounds awful and I am blushing and LOL)
I had talked to the doc about it a year ago, but I was reacting to everything from toothpaste to mixed veggies, so I just figured it would get better.
Let me know how your shopping goes! Keep them guessing, buy two boxes!! Wink

from the male perspective, likewise i think there is some sensitivity to the other sex. so many variables involved though difficult to pin point it specifically to this as the reaction isnt particularly severe. If my partner has been drinking wine and then kissing her that could likewise be the problem. How do you all do with kissing your partners when they have been drinking? Being a man i also have to contend with kissing lipstick, unsure if this is a trigger, but i'm guessing if one has MCAS so you probably have to be careful wearing it.

I can NOT wear lipstick or make up.  It has been awhile since I tried, but yes lipstick would be an issue I would think!
