Off All Antihistamines and Proton Pump Inhibiter, I Feel Better??? I'm Confused
09/19/12 at 00:29:42

In order to do skin testing for food allergies next Tuesday, I am off Singulair, the H1 and the H2 blockers.  I notice an uptick in my reactions to my allergens, dust mites and ragweed, via an itchy nose and throat and more sneezing, and a nose that feels like it wants to run.

But....... I am feeling really good.

I am off my proton pump inhibiter, a strong 60 mg dose of Dexilant, to see if my Chromogranin A will come down, an experiment I am doing for Dr. Afrin because I requested it.

Anyhow, other than an increase in my allergy symptoms, and my interstitial cystitis kicking in (I am off the hydroxyzine HCL for allergy testing, and this med helps my bladder feel better), I feel better.

I do not feel as weak and tired as I usually do.  Maybe I am on too many meds, or the wrong ones for me?  Maybe they are making my quality of life worse, not better?  Maybe I do not have MCAS,  but am reacting to too many meds?

Anyhow, I'll see if I can make it to next Tuesday for my food testing without my antihistamines.  Probably, after that, I will add back only one at a time to see which are most helpful, and which are no good.

As for right now, I am enjoying the fact that I can get out of the bed in the morning without feeling like a dead person.

Any ideas what is going on here?  Shouldn't I be a lot worse off without meds?  I am confused.

P.S.  I have begun a very low dose of tranquilizers twice a day per Dr. Afrin for my MCAS, and I mean a very low dose, which will be increasing this Thursday.

I tried this experiement myself a few weeks ago.  I stopped blood pressure meds, zantac, zyrtec and singulair.

I felt better for about a week (like you said) and started to eat everything  I used to eat (pizza, curried chicken, tomato sauce, chinese food, diet coke) and then I started in a downward spiral where I couldn't get out of bed and had shortness of breath.

I'm back on zantac and zyrtec.

The proton pump inhibitors are different than ingredients in zantac, you may want to try changing this.  Also I can't do the full pill of zyrtec at a time or I end up in bed (too sleepy).

If we could just figure this thing out it would be great huh?

Everyday is another rollercoaster ride.  P.S. I hate rollercoasters!  LOL

@PJP123,

No, I did not start eating everything.  I am aware of my interstitial cystitis and bladder problems and fear repercussions if I eat anything I want.

So far, I am experiencing allergy symptoms of itchy, irritated nose, postnasal drip, sore throat and sneezing, but other than that, I feel more energetic and better than when medicated.

My experiment will end next Tuesday.  We'll see.
