I bought some at Sam's before I read about people not being able to eat mangos because of the chemical in them. So just wondering before I try them if anyone can eat them? Pam

I ate a mango yesterday, so far go good - no symptoms at all! But I am being really cautious with everything else. Our Temp is near 100 degrees with a dew point at 74 and humidity of 47%, so I am staying indoors. Good eats! Lyn

Reply #2 - 07/05/12 at 17:55:57 Some people have problems with a substance in the mango skins that is the same as one in poison ivy and can cause contact dermatitis. Mangoes aren't recommend for anyone who reacts to poison ivy or poison oak, and others might want to wear rubber gloves when handling them.

I has been that hot here as well, I only went out on the 4th to grill burgers...probably didn't need to use the grill (could have used the asphalt)

Hi Pam,
Isn't mast cell life all about adapting?? I came up with a quick way to grill veggies on the grill. I usually roast them in the oven, but it was way too hot to even think about turning on the oven! I layered chopped veggies in a tinfoil pan with some oil, salt and pepper, ran out to put them on the grill, then set the timer and went out every 8 minutes to stir. Within 16 minutes, they were done. So much easier for me than having to stand over them when grilling veggie kabobs.

I hear ya about the asphalt....

Hi Pam;
I can eat mangoes, but I'm careful to eat them on a "low bucket" day. Been eating them since I was a kid (so Looong ago), and NEVER ate the skin. I see on a commercial, there's a little boy just biting into one, and it bugs me every time Embarrassed

Mango margaritas aren't bad either Wink

I had read somewhere on here (think Lisa said it) certain types of mangoes are better/worse than others...
Our grass is fried to a crisp ! I bet we could cook on the asphalt ! Cool

MANGOS=EVIL FOOD For me. We had family stay with us for our sons college graduation. I bought loads of fruit to cut up for breakfast. I had never tried mango so I got some. I tasted a tiny, small cut up piece while cutting them and within a couple minutes I felt my throat closing and ran for my benadryl. I have never had this reaction before to ANY food.
Word of advice, please have benadryl near by when you try this. Hope you have success

That being said can eat mangoes without problems only eat about a half one but can eat daily. Soo when others were eating strawberry shortcake on the fourth of July I had a mango shortcake
