For Those Getting in the Process of Getting Diagnosed - These Were My Elevated Markers.

My upper and lower GI biopsies were NORMAL. I guess they did not see mast cells there.  Go figure?

Plasma Heparin was significantly elevated at 0.06 anti-Factor Xa units/ml (upper normal 0.02)

Plasma Prostaglandin D2 was mildly elevated 0.06 (upper normal 0.02)

Serum Chromogranin A was 1009ng/ml (normal 0-95) This cannot be fully explained by a proton pump inhibiter alone - so mast cells are implicated

Factor VIII - high at %187 (normal 50 - 150%)

Plasma Free Norepinephrine high at 713 (normal 80-520)

Dopamine mildly elevated 26 (normal 0 -20)

Tryptase - normal     check this out folks    NORMAL  "as expected he said"

moderately elevated IgM beta-2-glycoprotein-1 antibody 35 (normal 0 - 19)

slightly elevated IgM anti-prothrombin antibody 25.8 (normal 0- 19.9)

I don't know what those markers mean, but depending on who did the colonoscopy and if they know how to test for mast cells, they have to take a biopsy and do the right staining.

WendyH,

I brought the upper and lower GI blocks and slides with me to my appointment at MUSC in order for the Medical University of South Carolina to interpret them.

My elevated markers are one variation that points me towards an MCAS diagnosis.  There is no definitive test that I know of, so a knowledgable doctor takes your history, takes appropriate tests and draws a conclusion.

Thanks Futurehope for sharing....I would be interested to know if your heparin was elevated?  It is the antifactor xa test.  I'm guessing since you didn't list it, that it is fine.  Thanks!

HB36,

Sorry I left that out.  I'll add it back into the original post.

P.S.  Do you have any idea what the anti-factor XA shows?  Is it something to do with how much heparin is in your bloodstream?  Does it get released by mast cells by any chance?  What function does it serve in the body?

It would be great to know a bit more about this substance. I suppose I am at a higher risk for blood clots?  Don't know?!

Since I cannot modify my original post, my 24 hr urine collection did not get all the way done since the urine "leaked" in transit to Mayo, but the spot check of the urine said:

N-methylhistamine - normal
prostagrandin D2 - elevated

Heparin is one of the chemicals that is released when mast cells degranulate
