Rare diseases/NIH, Sixty Minutes piece

Perhaps some of you had a chance to see the health piece on Sixty Minutes this week.  The interview was with a NIH physcian who deals daily with patients who have a rare disease.

It was very humbling to hear the doctor define "rare disease" in the context of the work he does at NIH.  Wow, remind me not to complain about MCAS!

Here's the link to the story:

See what you think...

Very interesting.  Thanks for sharing.  Maybe one day the NIH will be interested in MCAS.  A girl can dream....

They are, I promise you. They research under the umbrella of masto for seeing how different organs handle changes with it and comparing bone marrow results--and they research under mcad by researching the number of anaphylaxis events. Both are 1 to 3 day long studies for the patient--that have grown to include return visits with comparisons. NIH is probably our biggest hope for a cure and new treatment choices.

Julie, really great link and story!
Hugs
