Hormones...
10/21/11 at 10:37:49

Something someone mentioned on another forum sparked a thought and I wondered if anyone had any experience or opinions about masto flare ups and hormones.

As a teen (puberty.. didn't get my first menstral cycle until 15), I had flushing, rashes, lightheadedness, low bp etc like crazy...

In mid to late 20s, just after birth of my 1st son, low bp, disiness, lightheadedness, a few epsodes of syncope were thrown in...

now I'm getting mild food reactions, osteoarthritis, increased bone density, breathing issues, flushing, nausea, vomiting, headaches, fatigue, brain fog etc.

Have always had joint and bone pain....

Just wondering, if maybe my issues are just hormonal, or maybe my hormones are setting off masto symptoms..

what do you think...

Oh yes, it is a definite fact that symptoms will flare and subside in correlation with hormone levels fluctuating. You are on the right track!

I was anaphylaxing constantly during my estrogen rises during mi-cycle. It was so bad that after a few years my drs. thought there was option other than a hysterectomy. Which I did while be opposed to such a procedure. My symptoms drastically improved until they tried to put me on the lowest dose hormone replacement. I couldn't handle it. I still have IA/MCAS but the hormones made my bucket overflow every month. I went from several ER visits a year down to one or two.

It is a definite fact that hormones affect mast cell disease women! It has been mentioned many times that we feel more susceptible to attacks near our periods. For shockers like you and me (welcome to the IA club!), those hormones are practically predators!  Shocked

I had very severe symptoms with hormone fluctuations, migraines, nausea, dizziness. For me, using a hormone patch, that keeps the levels very regular, has been a lifesaver. I don't use high dose, I make sure the hormones are bioidentical (chemically identical to human hormones, not produced from horse urine), and I am religious about changing my patch on the right day.

It has worked for me, plus it reversed my osteopenia. So, I am fortunate that I can use them.
