TV show Mystery Diagnosis

This past month I discovered this tv show called Mystery Diagnosis. I am so glad i didn't know about it prior to learning about Mast Cell Disorders and that quite possibly i have a mast cell problem. I cant speak for others but i know in my search for answers if i came across an ailment that exhibited some of my symptoms i would run to a doctor and say maybe this is whats going on with me and the tests were run only to come back negative. Well now in watching this show i listen to these people tell their stories and symptoms and find myself relating to portions of the symptoms or TOTALLY understanding their frustration in not getting a diagnosis. Had i not been on the path i am now with mast cells and found that show.....oh how my doctors would hate me! LOL
just wanted to share that. I'm about to leave my house to go to my first interview with an oncologist as directed by Dr Afrin to see if he would be willing to learn about Mast Cell Disorders and work with Dr Afrin in treating me. Wish me luck and if you pray please throw one in for me. Thanks. Hope you all have a good day!

I hear ya!!!  It sure would be so easy to do that, Kim!   And yet, after a while it would fall upon DEAF EARS and the doctors would have declared you as "anxious"  and treated you thusly!!!   Best that you didnīt know!!

I, for one, want to hear how your consultation goes with the oncologist!!!!   He has to be a hematologist/oncologist, you know.  I didn't know this when we my oncologist was able to raise the suspicion for masto.  He told me that he's a clinical oncologist but doesn't deal with blood related cancers, only tumors in other areas other than the blood.

Let us know, will ya???

I for one am also speaking with my oncologist.  I'm not going to him to treat any cancer, but I've decided that with my history of breast cancer in the family and the combined fact that mast cells are indeed found to be involved in breast cancers, I, for one, am not going to wait until it shows, if it shows.   I've gone to a mastologist and gotten both her and my oncologist on the same page in that I want to do a BASELINE look at my breasts.  I've had some nodules that have showed up lately and although my exams look perfectly fine in that nothing looks worrying, I still think it's time I take a good look at them so that in the future, if there is any change, THEN, we have a baseline study to go upon.  I am being PRUDENT.  My oncologist didn't quite get where I was leading to at first, but when I explained to him that in order for my mastologist to be able to understand things, she needed a backup, he began to understand where I was going with this.

So, in a couple of months I'm off to Rio again to see my wonderful oncologist!!  It's nice to know that if I ever need one, I've got a major ally!!!

Good luck Kimmie!!  Let me know!

I will let you know how it goes. I'm in waiting room now. They were trying to make me do a blood draw! Sigh.
Getting a baseline is SO important. I get mammograms annually. Breast cancer runs in my family and i not only have fiberous breasts but about 7 years ago they found hardening of the tissue so i'm now ordered to have mammograms yearly. I'm glad you are getting that done.
More later....

I'm pretty sure that the show you saw interviewed me via telephone for that story! Alas, they didn't want me, because I am too healthy looking and doing fine! Haaa! They only wanted someone who was super sick and looked it. They weren't interested in someone who had been il, but managed to get better!  Tongue

Wow Deborah. That's too bad that they didn't use your story. I keep waiting to see a story on mast cells. That would be one way to get the word out!

My wife watches all the time, she recorded one where masto was the
diagnosis. It was a child who had UP. Since then have watched a few & because of my bias i'll bet 1/2 of them had to do with some kind of immune system problem. The interesting point I got from them was either the parents or the patient had to take the control of the situation & search out docs who could help & most were like me lucky to run into a doc that could figure it out.

That is so true Mike and i completely relate with knowing my body and knowing when a doctor just doesn't believe or understand. I actually had one specialist tell me it didn't look good that i had seen so many doctors. Frustrating!
I too wondered how many of those people were misdiagnosed and perhaps had a mast cell issue.
Well i'm hooked on that show!
