Is there any anti acid to take between am and pm zantac.  I'm finding it's a long time to wait to get some relief.
Thanks for any help.  Kiss

I've had success with Pepcid Complete, which gives you calcium (for instant relief) plus an H2 antihistamine.  The generic is fine.  Pepcid is very safe... and it won't hurt to take an extra 10mg on top of whatever doses of Zantac you're already taking.  TUMS also helps temporarily... more calcium carbonate.

Julie, I take 300mg of Zantac with each meal - that's three times a day. Depending on how much histamine one's body is dealing with every day, 150mg with each meal might be enough. It isn't enough for me.

Having no acid, or very little acid, in the stomach when you eat encourages the development of food allergy, because the foods you eat are not broken down as completely as they should be and tiny bits of food that can't go through the cells lining the small intestine, go between the cells, where they don't belong. There are lots of T cells and other immune cells in that tissue that identify strangers and may classify some of them as "allergens".

A number of nutrients are poorly absorbed in the absence of acid, also, such as iron and calcium, so it is important to keep some acid in the stomach.

So,the idea is to take as much H2 antihistamine as you need, but not more.

Heather, I didn't know Pepcid was making a combination product. Sounds useful. Pepcid stimulates appetite also, so is great for people who have trouble making themselves eat enough of the right foods.

Thanks for the information. I'll try the Pepcid soon.
