First of all I want to thank Deborah for adding this category; it's nice to have a place just to get things off your chest
So Friday I had a Dr.'s appointment that I have been PATIENTLY waiting for over the last several weeks. Even though my more severe reactions are controlled for the most part throughout the year (until the heat kicks in), my flushing, skin writing, hives, etc (skin reactions) have been constant. I mean they let up every now and then for a day here or there; but for the most part I deal with them on a daily basis and throughout the day for that matter.
So in my exploration for answers (thank GOD for this forum); I have learned more about Gastrocrom and am 100% confident at this time that it is a necessity for me.
So as I opened up my notebook during my consult with my allergist on Friday and started going through the two page document I prepared to make sure that "NO" information was missed; I came to Gastrocrom. His answer to me was "I've never prescribed that before and I don't want to just prescribe you medication for the sake of prescribing medication"
I laughed; I said look, it's a medicine used specifically in the treatment of mast cell patients. Then I reminded him that getting a prescription was half the battle; "I STILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT"... I mean I got a little upset and my face started flushing; I told him that I am not in a position to ask for medicines that I have to turn around and spend money on unless I need them.
Anyway he's supposed to call me by Wednesday and I know he will give me the prescription; but come on... I wouldn't wish this stuff on anyone; but I couldn't and still can't help but think that if he had to spend one crummy day in my shoes then I would already have the prescription and started taking this medicine that by all means is a necessity.
It's just an irritant and I'll get over it... I appreciate this Dr.'s willingness to learn as we go especially since there are really no true "Mast Cell" specialists in my area. It's just so frustrating some times.
Ok, I"m done with my vent... And it actually feels good to get it off my chest...
