Title: LINKS on Disability. is it time? Emotional impact of leaving work on Disability Post by MastoGem on 07/16/14 at 04:35:32 "Once you find yourself dragging home just so you'll be able to get up and go back to work the next day, then it's past time to take a serious look at disability". Well, it's been one of THOSE days above and I'm revisiting the disability option. Here's a govt link to an overview of how they decide if some one is disabled. You can't work full time or make more than $1070/month. http://www.ssa.gov/dibplan/dqualify5.htm#a0=1 I called the Atlanta lawyer that Ramona recommended. He was very nice. He did laughed when I said that I heard he'd "never lost a masto case" though. He said I'd have to go part-time before I could apply which I find scary. I've also read on here that MCAD is "on a list of conditions" that the govt views very favorably for disability and it may have said granted it without dispute. I'd love to find that list. I found this govt list for "Immune System Disorders" and others. It doesn't say "mast cell", "MCAD", "histamine" anywhere on it but maybe we fall under this category. http://www.ssa.gov/disability/professionals/bluebook/14.00-Immune-Adult.htm I also found an interesting article on the "Emotional Impact of leaving work on disability" where I got the quote above. http://www.youngparkinsons.org/what-you-should-know-about-early-onset-parkinsons-disease/articles/the-emotional-impact-of-leaving-work-on-disability For me - my emotions are closely linked with my MCAD symptoms. I'm scared that if I go on Disability - I'll be so depressed that I'll get worse. Work also forces me to socialize on days when I don't feel well. I can imagine that being on Disability for an Introvert like me would mean spending a LOT of time alone. All things to consider.. Hope you all are having an empowered symptom free day! |
