Title: I think I just flunked Chromolyn 101 :(
Post by zippy890 on 10/13/13 at 13:14:14

I started low and slow on pure Chromolyn powder, 100mg/day, dissolved in warm water.  No gut upset, just a little more tired.  I did this for 3 weeks, and noticed I seemed to be getting more reactive, and my periph. neuropathy was getting worse.  I thought it would pass.  So, I bumped up to 200mg/ day in a split dose.   That when things went off the rails.  I got very tired.  My skin itched horribly, plus many other symptoms.   I stood it for one week, then I just couldn't take it any longer.  So I quit.   In 3 days, I felt 100% better.

Now, I have failed out on Ketotifen, and Chromolyn !

I have only two meds. after all this.   Allegra and Doxepin.   And I can only take a "certain" amount of those, or things go bad for me.

I am still undermedicated.

Any suggestions from those more experienced than me ?   <s>

Are you intolerant to salicylates? Because Chromolyn has structural similarities to salicylic acid and because of that some also react to Chromolyn.

Yes, I believe I am reactive to salicylates.   Every time I try to take an aspirin, it bothers me really badly.

What to do ?   (:-.

I had no idea cromolyn shared properties with salicylates. Is this true?  If it is, it would explain why it makes me so sick. Ugh.
Does singulair share any salicylate properties?

I react to salicylates in food and aspirin but have no problems with my singulair brand.

I have not much idea about chemistry but the aspirin molecule and cromoglicic acid have some strong similaritys at one end.
Montelukast/Singulair is much more complex but it also has one end with OH-=O Atoms. Maybe this is what triggers mast cells?
Anyone here who understands more of chemistry?

Zippy..have you tried Quercetin?  There are a few threads on it you can read. Dr. Theo is a mast cell expert. He sells a formulation of Quercetin for mast cell patients that are very reactive. I do not take quercetin, but have heard some good things about it.
