Title: Good Docs in Minneapolis Area?
Post by jbean on 01/23/13 at 12:22:16

Hello!

I am moving to Minneapolis for a new job, and was wondering if anyone knows of good masto docs or allergists in that area.

Thanks much!

I don't know of any good doctors in Minneapolis (sorry)... but I lived just across the river in St. Paul for ten years!! 8-)

You could drive to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester in about two hours.  Just hop on 35W and it's a piece of cake.

Heather

ps - Congratulations on the new job!!!!

You hit the mast cell doctor jackpot!

Dr. Afrin took a position with the Division of Hematology, Oncology, and Transplantation at the University of Minnesota (in Minneapolis).  He will be relocating in July 2014

His last clinic at MUSC is coming up on May 2nd.

Hi jbean,

I live in MN, and go to the Mayo Clinic, but it has been very difficult to get a diagnosis there, even with high histamines and prostaglandins.  I heard that Dr. Afrin is coming to the U of M as well, so will be calling to make an appt with him:)  I have a doctor in Waconia that is willing to treat people with Mast Cell Disease--you could call her, she's very smart and kind.  I'm not sure if she wants to take on many mast cell patients, but you could PM me if you want more info.  I have to ask her if I can give out her info online.   :)Sarah

I've assumed when Dr. Afrin is transferred to Minnesota that he will start seeing new patients again. Has this been confirmed? Dr Afrin is my favorite MCAD specialist, based on reading his publications.

If the MCAD doctor I went to doesn't work out for me, I may try to fly to Dr. Afrin or see if another doctor would be interested in consulting with Dr. Afrin.

Yeah the Mayo Clinic seems to have gotten a bad reputation for MCAD, but maybe things have improved recently. They have a special program for MCAD and eosinophilic disorders[1], but I wouldn't want to go there until I hear of good experiences regarding MCAS. Although they do seem capable of diagnosing simple obvious classic cases of mastocytosis.

Hi Bruce--I just have to comment. I read about that program somewhere too.   I have a Mast Cell Disease and Eosinophilic Esophagitis, but am not in that program :-?  Interesting, huh?  From what I know, Dr. Afrin will be seeing new patients.  Take care!  Sarah

Hi Sarah. Yeah it may be good program to be a part of, especially if you're already diagnosed. I just would like to hear some more recent experiences with those Minnesota Mayo doctors regarding them diagnosing MCAS though. Hopefully they learn a lot from the program.

Dr. Afrin is open for business...and you can get in really quick. No 6 month wait!!!

He sees patients on Tuesday, Wed, Thursday in the clinic. If you are traveling from out of town plan on staying 3 days.

Call 612-625-5411 to schedule an appointment.
