Title: Products with perfume... ugh!
Post by Starflower on 01/01/13 at 11:58:20

It happened again tonight.  I went to Kroger (grocery store) to buy some milk and a few other things... and I ended up walking past the aisles with the detergent, candles, air fresheners, etc...  By the time I left I was starting to feel dizzy and a bit "urgent" to use the bathroom.

Ugh!

I really need to start pre-medicating before I go to such places :(

Heather, it happens to me too.  In stores, resturants and at home.
My daughter moved back home and put purfume on the other day and I spent my evening in the bathroom. :-[   I told her to keep it in her car.

Thankfully, I'm still OK at restaurants, and my family is very good about using unscented or naturally-scented products.  But stores... egad!  Why is our culture so obsessed with chemical scents?!?

I finally gave up and bought a mask with filter that I wear anytime i go out. It helps but isnt completely foolproof. It is very frustrating to be so limited.

One of my first allergists told me to avoid the detergent aisle or hold my breath!  I got woozy from standing next to someone who had used scented fabric softener on her clothes!  And what are they thinking to have scented air fresheners in the bathrooms in doctors' offices!?

Soooo agree heather

Before I was sick I used to think Walmart and libraries were just a signal to my system to go to the bathroom; turns out it was likely the scents and mold as now I get anaphylaxis from it

I can do the grocery store if I speed walk past the detergent aisle

If I have to get myself soap I hold my breath and still get mild symptoms

I can't do restaurants yet because cooking smells are such an issue

I feel like a dog because when I walk past people I can smell the last meal they had, if they have a new car, fabric softener, detergent , cologne....a new way to see people and I don't like it!!
