Title: Prayers Needed
Post by jbean on 11/17/12 at 14:55:48

Hello Masto Friends,

I was just wondering if you might pray for my mom?  She is 83 and has many health issues.  She became ill and is now delirious, and they are unsure what is causing it. She is very weak, not eating well, etc.  Overall quite disturbing.

I have been with her most of the weekend at the hospital, day and night, and the whole situation is very stressful and sad.  I am trying really hard not to get sick from masto, but the whole thing is getting to me as I have had to advocate for her treatment :'(   You know how stressful that can be.  Please pray for my mom's health and mine.

Thank you so very much.  You are the best!

Ms. Jbean

Oh that is so sad, Jill! I hope she is showing some improvement. Does she have any sign of dementia? My dad (91 yrs) has moderate dementia, and any change in his normal day or routine can cause him to be very confused. I know how you must feel....Let us know what is happening, and perhaps you should double up on the meds that you are allowed to double for preventative measures.

Jill,

So sorry your Mom's having health problems!  The most common cause of changes in behavior, like confusion and delirium, in elderly people is urinary tract infections.  I hope they can figure out what's causing hers soon.  I've gone through this, and it did make the masto flare.  Hope you can keep the symptoms down with meds.  Be sure to talk with your doctor if things seem to spiral for you.

Let us know how you both are doing!

Jill;
Prayers on the way sweetie ! What Joan said about UTI's is true. Also, seniors can easily become disoriented & confused when they are in the hospital/nursing home/etc. My dad, & father in law both had that (no signs of dementia or Alzhiemers prior). Honey if you need to talk  or have questions I'm here for you. Taking care of a sick parent is one of the most stressful things you can go through. Be kind to yourself & don't forget, you are never alone  :-*

Hi Everybody!

So nice to hear from all of you, thank you so very much for your prayers.

Mom is out of the hospital now and is back home.  She is doing a little better.

A couple of years ago, she had very bad sepsis from a UTI.  She is diabetic, suffers from chronic electrolyte problems, and developed bad delirium and almost died. Every since, she has had problems off and on, and I think it might be post- sepsis cognitive impairment and an immune problem.   I am hoping that I can convince her to get a referral to a large medical center where she can see some geriatric, neurology, and diabetes specialists.  Her case is somewhat complex and we need to get to the bottom of it.

I have been pretty stressed out, and got sick the night before T-day with a bad masto attack.  Did not have to give the epi-pen.  I managed to calm it down with a couple of Benedryl.  I usually blow off after a period of bad stress.  So, I am going to take it easy for the next few days.  There is also a stomach flu going around here, and I think I have that mixed in with this, running a little fever too.   I took a little more of my meds, and am  taking some more Benedryl when I feel bad.  I decorated for Christmas yesterday, and it really helped me to feel better and get my mind off things.

Stress is a huge trigger for me, and right now I have plenty.  I am job hunting  and interviewing too as I am still out of work, and the job market is so tight right now. Everything all at once! Thanks for your prayers everyone, I really appreciate it.  I'm just putting it all in God's hands now.

HUGS!! :)

Gosh, Jilly, still unemployed!!  I´m so sorry to hear that this hasn´t been resolved yet!  I´d thought you´d gotten a job by now since you´d not said anything about still being unemployed!   I´m going to put you on the TOP of my prayer list!!!!!   May this be your Christmas gift - a NEW job!!!

So glad to hear your Mom´s home and better, that´s a relief!  So good that you are there for her, I´m sure it´s a big comfort to have you with her through it all!!!  Perhaps this is why you´re still unemployed for now.   We can´t see these things while we are going through them but often these situations were meant to be in retrospect.

Much love to you Jilly Bean!!!
