Title: Lack of smelling Post by kimtg68 on 03/19/12 at 02:51:05 I have lost my sense of smell! I bet many of you that are triggered by smells wouldn't mind having this symptom. I've not yet seen this one discussed, but perhaps I just missed it on here somewhere. I USED to have a nose like a hunting dog! I would smell things no one else around me could smell. Now I can't tell when the cat liter gets smelly! I can smell 'some' things but it either has to be extremely strong or RIGHT under my nose. It's bizzare. I don't mind it much though. Any one else experience this? |
Title: Re: Lack of smelling Post by Starflower on 03/19/12 at 04:10:10 Yes!! My sense of smell is coming back now, but it was 90% gone for about two years. I couldn't smell burning toast, stinky diapers... my husband would say, "Don't you smell that?!" And I would have to say, "No... I honestly don't." I'm not sure what caused it... Heather |
Title: Re: Lack of smelling Post by zippy890 on 03/26/13 at 10:15:50 My sense of smell has been gone for years. I once took a walk in my yard. I came to the street and stood there for a while breathing in the fresh air. Then my eyes and nose started burning and watering for no apparent reason. I couldn't figure it out until I glanced down, literally within inches of my feet, there was a freshy dead skunk partially obsured by fallen leaves. It smelled so bad it was making my eyes water. But I couldn't smell it. :( Zippy |
Title: Re: Lack of smelling Post by Joan on 03/27/13 at 18:09:32 I alternate between super-smeller and mildly impaired smeller. I think using saline rinses in my nose twice a day helps it to be much more normal. |
Title: Re: Lack of smelling Post by brethor on 03/29/13 at 07:04:33 me too!! just since getting ill and especially in the last year I have almost completely lost my sense of smell where before it was overly sensitive. My autonomic specialist thinks it is related to neuropathy as I have other areas of my body that are affected. He said if it is neuropathy I will likely never get it back :( it totally sucks!! Bren |
