Title: A list of Salicylates that can trigger mast cells!
Post by PamH on 03/09/12 at 12:31:58

Salicylates are one of my triggers, they are in so many products.  It is impossible to go completely salicylate free, but it helps to know what products are high and very high.  I'm not sure if this will help any one but it has really helped me to identify my triggers.  I was told by a doctor that salicylates don't have to enter the immune system, they cause a chemical reaction that opens the mast cell up.

Never start the elimination diet with out checking all medications and first and consulting a professional. Never start taking a medication with salicylate in it directly after the elimination diet and shock can occur from introducing too much salicylate into your body after it has gone a long while without salicylate. Salicylates are a majpr trigger for me.Inhaled as well as in foods can eat very little of them. Salicylatesensitivity.com is a great website with lots of info on foods to avoid, also has a great forum.

Yep, me too.  The salicylatesensitivity.com site has a comprehensive list:

Unfortunately, sals are in the majority of fruits and vegetables.  The best thing you can do if you think they might be a trigger is do an elimination diet/product phase-out and then reintroduce things one at a time.
