Title: What tests do I need (initial diagnosis) ?
Post by zippy890 on 03/05/12 at 02:47:43

I'm gearing up to go to the doctor to (hopefully) be officially diagnosed.  I almost certainly (after only 20 short years of suffering) have some form of MCAD.  This has not made me wealthy.   So, in order to maximize my dollars spent, what test should I have that are essential ?   And perhaps, which ones could I sort of do without ?

Is this a Sticky somewhere ?   Sorry if I missed it.

TIA,
Todd in Tenn.

What tests have you had done so far?

For MCAS, serum tryptase, 24 hour urine N methylhistamine and prostaglandin D2.

Might need to rule out pheo and carcinoid with urine VMAs and 5-HIAA.

Don't be discouraged if MCAS testing comes back negative. A lot of us on here are in that situation and still have symptoms and respond to treatment.

Skin biopsy if you have UP, bone marrow biopsy and aspirate if you have systemic masto symptoms.
