Title: For those thinking of applying for Disability
Post by Riverwn on 05/12/11 at 17:11:35

I got mine with NO lawyer and in 4 months. BUT!!!!

I started the most important thing right away, the PAPERWORK and lists documenting  EVERYTHING.  I gave copies of it to ALL primary DRs and ER DRs and it became part of my official record.
DOCUMENT;
lists of;
diagnosises--ALL conditions that relate..example; IC, hypertensive variant in shocking, neuropathy in lower extremeties, exercise induced reaction, heat induced reaction, masto brain fog, intemittant lymphodema, chronic IBS, get the idea?

Medications, what for etc even OTC meds EVERYTHING!

Allergies and triggers, how they affect you

Drs and Hospitals you have been treated by--dates, how treated

How this affects your work life or lack of

How this affects your daily life--in caring for yourself, gorcery shopping, cleaning, cooking etc. (things you must do to survive)

daily pain levels, where/ Rate from 1 to 10, what you take to feel better, rate pain 1 to 10 after treating yourself for pain

KEEP COPIES OF ALL YOUR RECORDS, ESPECIALLY LABS!

Keep ALL Dr appointments, it makes you look bad if you dont

I even listed all shock events, where I was treated and by whom

I also listed every Dr visit and what was newly treated
(all separate lists)

Put these lists in your ER notebook, and when a DR or ER asks if they can make copies say YES, it makes it part of your official record.
Suggest they may want copies if they dont ask, they will take you up on it.

PAPERWORK is what is important to SS, thats it. That is what proves your case.
Hope this helps!!
Ramona

I want to second what Ramona is saying. I did the same thing, and snowed them under a blizzard of paper documenting my illness and my disabilities. Just make sure they know how much work it takes you to produce that much paperwork, or they think you are too capable.

Everyone told me to expect to be denied first time out, but I received my approval first time through, within 5 months. They even back dated my date of disability for 5 years, as I had the records to prove it, but had not applied.

Even if you do get denied the first round, don't give up! Keep on documenting, and keep on asking for the support you deserve.
