Title: Myelodysplastic syndrome
Post by missybean on 03/11/11 at 04:21:47

Hey guys, I just wanted to ask a quick question. My grandfather was told about 1 year before he past away that he had myelodysplastic syndrome. I believe the doctors thought it was due to being on coumadin for years that probably caused it. Is that true? I'm just wondering is there any relation to masto?

Hi Melissa,

Systemic mastocytosis and myelodysplastic syndrome are both bone marrow disorders.  They can both cause abnormal CBCs, but I don't think there's any other relationship between the two of them.  Keep in mind that true neoplastic mastocytosis is rarely found in more than one family member!  As far as whether it could be related to TMEP... well.. who knows?  So little research has been done.
